The beautiful Kerry Eb graces the cover of the December issue of our Get It magazine, out this week, and it’s choc-a-block with great reads of the hottest and trendiest from Umhlanga to the Dolphin Coast.
This issue, our thickest to date at 100 pages, contains articles on subjects as diverse as baking with Kerry to cage fighting with Ballito champ Amanda Lino, from underwater tourism to a peek inside the Brettenwood home of Springbok Keegan Daniel and his wife Tania. Also meet the new Miss Ballito, Khanyisile Zondo, who is working hard towards a medical degree.
Also out this week is our sixth edition of Get It Kids, a mag designed especially for young families and their children. There are some fun interviews with young moms on how they cope with their busy lives, and also with children whose dads are chefs in this holiday paradise.
Be sure to grab copies of both before they run out – they’re great holiday reads!GETBALL1215cv001.inddGETKIDSBALL1215cv001.indd

Be safe these holidays. There were two drownings in November. Swim only where the lifeguards are on duty. Do not swim after drinking alcohol. And above all, do not panic if you are caught in a rip. The current will drop you after a few hundred metres, at most. Panic kills.

Okay, time to get serious. Once again I have been prowling the backstreets of Ballito, searching for the perfect milkshake. Though this time it’s been the sunny lower village beachfront, where the hordes of holidaymakers will throng this December, seeking good food, laid back atmosphere and . . . great milkshakes!
Last month I visited a few establishments in upper Ballito and Salt Rock, where Sage came out tops with their creamy, delicious lime milkshake. But I have to tell you, there are some serious contenders for top prize down on the beachfront.
Though Eat Local is not one of them. Great food, great atmosphere, but sadly the milkshake was watery, with a lump of ice-cream bobbing below the surface like the iceberg that sank the Titanic. And the most expensive at an outrageous R35, so not for me.
The Galley has to have one of the best views on the whole North Coast, only matched by Gianni’s upstairs, though the Galley has the benefit of having an open deck. The Galley’s milkshake looks great and photographs well against that backdrop, though sadly it too was a little thin for my liking. However, their price at R20 was the lowest by far!
The Beach Hut didn’t have my favourite flavour, lime, so I settled for strawberry. It wasn’t a big sacrifice, because it was delicious! Even with a double-thick straw, it stood up firmly like a spade in concrete, was consistent all the way to the last slurp and was, I’ve said it already, delicious. However, at R28 a little on the pricey side.
On to Gianni’s, where the view is tremendous from an enclosed verandah and the milkshake was also outstanding. It was so thick I swear, when I sucked I thought the back of my head was going to conk in, just like an old beach ball. It’s the first shake I’ve had to wait a bit for it to melt so that I didn’t get brainfreeze. Great shake, great price at R21, Gianni’s gets my vote on the Village beachfront.

Three sisters ages 92, 94 and 96 live in a house together. One night the 96 year old draws a bath. She puts her foot in and pauses. She yells to the other sisters, “Was I getting in or out of the bath?”
The 94 year old yells back, “I don’t know. I’ll come up and see.” She starts up the stairs and pauses “Was I going up the stairs or down?”
The 92 year old is sitting at the kitchen table having tea listening to her sisters. She shakes her head and says, “I sure hope I never get that forgetful, knock on wood.”
She then yells, “I’ll come up and help both of you as soon as I see who’s at the door.”
