Who is this who invites you into this conversational relationship?
When entering into any meaningful relationship, it is essential to get to know, trust and respect the person. So it is with God. Many people don’t desire a close relationship with God, because they have been misinformed about him, or they have developed ideas about him that are far from the truth.
I have met many people who are convinced that God is in a bad mood with them; they have not ever realised that God is not ‘out to get’ them and ‘crash their party’, or is a judgmental killjoy! God longs to draw all men and women, boys and girls into a loving/kind relationship with himself.
Here are some of the essentials to realise about the true nature of God who invites you into a life transforming relationship with himself:
• He is love, and no matter what you have done in the past, he loves you and wants you to experience the transforming power of his love. “God is love” and as such, he is not “out to get you”.
• He is good, and never does anything wrong.
• He is totally faithful and worthy of your total trust. He will never let you down. “But trusting him means that though I don’t always get what I want, trusting him means that I am contented in the assurance that he got what he wanted.”
• He is constant and totally trustworthy.
• He is powerful and is on your side.
• He is happy and radiates pure joy and is fun to be around. The best dads make time to have fun with their kids. God is the best Father you will ever find and he is the greatest example of this.
• He knows everything. Because of this he can never be misinformed about anything; and never makes a mistake.
• Having infinite intelligence, he knows more and is wiser than you or anyone else in the universe.
• He is Eternal and Omnipresent. Because he is not restricted to time and space like we humans are, he can be with you, no matter where you are. This is what he has promised to do, he said: “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (See Genesis 28:15 and Hebrews 13:5)
With all of these credentials who would not be excited to live in a close, trusting friendship with him.
