This is your invitation into a conversational prayer relationship with Him.
He wants to speak to you and has a lot of amazing things to say to you and about you. He tells you the awe inspiring things he has done for you, and still wants to do for you. But, unlike ordinary human beings, He does not speak to just give us information. When He speaks, his words are weightier than anyone else’s, because his words have creative power. After all, He created the whole world and all the beauties of creation by simply speaking the word: “Let there be … and there was.” (See Genesis 1). So when he speaks to you, yes, he probably will give you some important information, but his words will do much more than just that, they will create fresh and amazing things in your life.
You can really get to know him, in all his awesomeness as you read the Bible, expecting him to speak to you personally. Read slowly, savouring the nuances of the various ideas. Take time to meditate on the truths and their rich impact on your life.
The Bible is a miraculous book that God has placed in our hands. You may ask: “How can you make such a statement?”
The supernatural nature of the Book is demonstrated by the following:
There are over two hundred prophecies about Jesus in the Jewish section of the Bible. The Jews have kept the scriptures with meticulous care. These prophecies were fulfilled in detail in Jesus’ life. Here are just a few examples:
• He was born of a virgin. (Isaiah 7:14)
• He was born in Bethlehem. (Micah 5:2)
• He rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. (Zechariah 9:9)
• He was sold for 30 pieces of silver, and this money was used to buy a potter’s field. (Zechariah 11:12)
• Jesus, died by crucifixion. (Psalm 22:16)
• They gambled for his robe. (Psalm 22:18)
Also it is well documented, historically, that Jesus rose from the dead. You might say: “Come off it! How can you prove that?”
Because over 500 eyewitnesses spoke boldly of the risen Lord; and many were prepared to die for this fact.
Also, thousands of people embraced this truth, within a few weeks of his resurrection, and formed the earliest church, right there in Jerusalem.
