Trust in a personal relationship is the result of genuine love. Trusting someone, is in many ways, the result of knowing that this person’s love for you is genuine.
Probably the most powerful word in the English language is the word “LOVE”. In its real form it has power to give birth to vital issues such as trust, intimacy, confidence, security and sense of safety, and creativity flourishes. Yet sadly, due to the proliferation of the Hollywood style of soap operas, in many ways the word has been bled of almost all of its higher meaning. In the face of this, the best description of “love” is to give oneself totally and selflessly for the good of another. John tells us in his Gospel how Jesus defined and demonstrated the meaning of true love. He says in his first letter: “God is love.”
Then when I really grasp the enormity of how God has proven His love for me, by the sacrificial act of giving His son for my eternal good, I begin to understand the meaning of the word “love”.
Faith and trust come as a consequence, when I realise that this Person loves me so much, He is willing to suffer and even die for my wellbeing. And on top of it all, I discover that this is no ordinary man who shows me such magnificent love, but He happens to be the High King of the Universe,
God Himself. How on earth can I ever be so deceived as to mistrust this very Person?
Over the years God has proved His love for me in many amazing ways. So trusting Him is the most natural thing for me. Yet, I still have moments of doubt and insecurity, but as I remind myself of His faithful love for me, faith and trust, once again flood back into my heart and mind and my peace is restored.
As I write these words, I am praying for you my reader, that you too will get to know Him as the most consistent and amazing Lover, and so, based on the evidence, will find comfort in learning to trust The Almighty more than ever before. It has been my experience in the face of shocking disappointment and even severe grief, I have found enormous comfort and strength when I am reminded that He loves me, and I am able to say with conviction: “I trust you Father, even though I may never understand why.”
