Getting your eyes tested every two years is important, not only to assess your vision but also to detect health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
As a glasses and contact lens wearer, I decided to visit Torga Optical at the Ballito Junction with the new owner, Sarisha Haripershad, doing my eye test.
This was the first time I have had my eyes tested by a woman and it was very comforting. Sarisha was right on target straight away, she was professional, warm and extremely well-educated in her field.

Despite her knowledge, Sarisha spoke in layman’s terms and was easy to understand.
The last test I had was done by a very abrupt optometrist who seemed impatient with me and after the consultation I felt my lens strength was not correct but I was too intimidated to say anything. Have you ever had that?
Sarisha had all the time in the world for me. This really impressed me after my last eye test experience.
I was informed that my eyes had deteriorated a bit and that there was some damage to them from contact lens overuse.
I was asked to choose a set of specs with Chantel’s help, plus a pair of polarized sunnies – both very trendy I might add!
Sarisha convinced me to go for the polarized lenses on my sunnies for extra eye care and this has changed my life when it comes to driving. I cannot believe I have lived without polarized lenses for so long! Well worth it.
The complete eye test and choosing my glasses took around 30 mins and once the order was placed, my glasses took 10 days to arrive.
Now I have a set of contact lenses, polarized prescription sunglasses and a pair of specs with anti-glare. Sarisha advised I only wear the contact lenses three days a week to give my eyes a needed break.
Fridays at Torga Optical are ‘free eye test’ days. I love that they give back to the community that way and their specials are all year long. The current special is two sets of specs from R2750.
Chantal was one of the managers at the Torga Optical branch in Ballito Junction who really impressed me with her knowledge and customer service. There was no fault I could find in this lady and her follow-ups were excellent too.
