Letter: On the prowl in Ballito

The rates department is watching.

Tim Pierce of Durban writes: This is a warning that the rates department is on the prowl in Ballito.

I have a client who owns a holiday cottage and who uses the cottage predominantly for himself and his extended family.

However they do occasionally let the cottage in order to generate some income for a hefty rates bill.

They advertised the cottage on a holiday letting internet site.

This was picked up by the eThekwini rates department and they promptly re-categorized the property from residential to commercial and increased the rates accordingly.

Be careful what you advertise on websites.

The rates department is watching.
