Tony Falkson writes from Shaka’s Rock: To the paddleski fisherman I witnessed today doing something incredibly stupid near a couple of whales – not content to enjoy the closeness of these beautiful creatures from a safe distance, but following the mother and calf metres away.
And then paddling right over them was asking for trouble.
Watching you through my binoculars being sent flying off your ski by a nudge from the mother was what you deserved and could have had tragic consequences for you.
Hopefully you have learned your lesson – keep your distance and show these wonderful visitors to our shores more respect.
