DA caucus leader Cllr Madhun Sobram Sing, writes: The long-awaited KwaDukuza Mall will be opened this week despite all the controversy and hype.
The DA welcomes the opening.
The project has created many opportunities for local labour, sub-contractors, local suppliers and most importantly jobs for the youth.
With high level of unemployment (over 27 %) we are sitting on a time bomb.
The DA will always support development and job creation. Our own interaction with individuals and community shows there is overwhelming support for the mall despite concerns on compliance issues.
The DA supports the rule of law including by-laws of the municipality. If there are challengers during the construction phase they must be dealt with speedily by intervention and correction. Co-operation from the municipality and developer is of utmost importance.
The municipality will apply its mind when issuing an occupational certificate with or without conditions.
Furthermore the project will create direct and indirect jobs especially with franchise stores.
The KwaDukuza Mall must become a hub. Millions will also flow into the coffers of KwaDukuza and Ilembe municipalities through services rendered.
The DA remains optimistic and believes the storm will pass and people will get on with their lives.
