Dodie Govender of Shakaskraal writes: Malema has accused Indians of being racist, of treating Blacks badly and not employing more of them and repeating these statements on different platforms.
He must know such utterances have the potential to instil hatred and incite violence against Indians.
He should also speak the real truth to his own people, that burning private property, looting by governments and invading land is criminal, senseless and it is an impediment to their common sense, intelligence and wisdom.
Ever since Indians set foot in South Africa their life was predominately in hardship, suffering and toil.
Besides shelter and the little income they received for their labour, they had nothing, were given nothing and expected nothing from anyone. Our forefathers would not accept the squalor and poverty they were subjected to.
Indians were always submissive to their employer because of their nature and innate fear of God within them. Knowing God helps those who help themselves and knowing they alone can change their circumstances.
They used education, knowledge, skill, trade and gardening to supplement their meagre income. Large companies also employed Indians because they were reliable, trustworthy and diligent workers.
As they prospered they provided for their every need, buying land, building places of worship, homes, schools, hospitals and business premises. By the third generation, Indians were professional in every profession and trade. This helped them to prosper even further from their forefathers being just field workers.
Then the horror of horrors began in 1949 when Blacks attacked Indians, looting, burning and destroying their homes, businesses and livelihood and so many lost their lives. Not many years later the Group Areas Act caused Indians the same kind of loss.
In the eighties the horror of 1949 was repeated with the same tragic consequences.
To this very day Indian farmers and residents are forced to flee leaving behind a whole lifetime of achievements.
Will Malema ever realise repeating his disparaging remarks about Indians will further cause the victimisation of Indians?
The ethos of Indians is to serve therefore Indians must never retaliate because it will not give them their humanity and they will not personify God within them.
May our God guide and lead us to reveal our humanity, uphold our dignity and sanctify our sanity. For God alone will be our saviour.
