Letter: More paper waste

LA Naidoo of Tongaat on the paperless society: Emails seem to be the norm today.

There is wastage of paper, ink, electricity and time.

Here is one example. Telkom’s monthly statement is eight pages.

• Page 1 – account summary,
• page 2 – account assistance,
• page 3 – total charges,
• page 4 – getting help,
• page 5 – detailed usage report,
• page 6 – statement explanation,
• page 8 – tax invoice explanation.

For a domestic user, only pages 1, 3 and 5 are necessary.

The other pages may be of benefit to a first-time user.

I have been a user for about 50 years.
