Debbie Finch writes: I want to thank you for running articles on Alzheimers and dementia in your recent issues (‘Dealing with dementia positively’, Courier November 2).
Anyone who has had the misfortune to be involved with dementia will know how difficult it is to find anyone experienced in managing the disease, and I am sure most families muddle through without understanding the deep distress and terror of the afflicted person and without being able to offer meaningful support.
Let alone the trauma that is suffered by the family trying to deal with an irreversible and incomprehensible condition.
As a result of your articles, I have met with Ross McCarthy, and am hopeful that his and Sharon’s plans to share the information they learnt in England with our local community will bring knowledge and relief to carers and family members.
Our Christmas Fair committee members are in favour of supporting their initiative and will decide on the best way to do this.
We would truly appreciate your making space in the Courier for future articles.
