It would be great to hear from the chief of traffic in Ballito what the expected service levels are from the traffic officers that are designated to be on point duty at various intersections around KDM on a daily basis.
In fact, this could possibly be extended to the public being told whether or not there are always a certain number of officers on patrol during the day and night.
The reasons that I ask is:
It would appear that on a day when it is raining, those on point duty do not need to work. High volume and high-risk intersections, such as those at schools, are simply abandoned.
I cannot understand how this is allowed. Surely weather does not negate the need to perform vital traffic control duty.
Secondly, when I contrast the work done by lifeguards on our beaches to traffic officers, it would seem logical that there should always be a presence of traffic officers on our roads, allocated to certain areas within KDM, just as there are always lifeguards on duty on our beaches. The lifeguards don’t all vanish when the beach gets a bit quiet.
Our roads are in use 24/7 every day of the year, yet there seems to be an absence of traffic officers most of the day and night, barring when a special operation is being conducted somewhere.
