Your recent article “The More Things Change” about the State of the Nation Address refers (Two Bits, February 15).
Older readers will be aware of the meaning of the phrase “This is Where I Came In”.
For the sake of the younger readers – we used to have tea room bioscopes (cinemas) in the old days.
These cinemas used to show a single two-hour film, repeatedly and continuously all day.
When you went into the theatre, the film would already be partly shown and you would see the second part of the film first and then immediately be shown the first portion.
If you were to stay on, you would see the second portion again and again and again, depending on how long you stayed.
Is this not exactly what we are experiencing year after year without any change or improvement or fulfilment of previous promises?
Makes you think, doesn’t it!
