Recently my wife and I, together with my brother-in-law and his wife, took off by road from Salt Rock, stopping in Kokstad, East London, Hogsback, Port Alfred, Plettenberg Bay, Mossel Bay, Robertson, Hermanus, Cape Town and then home via Beaufort West, Queenstown and Shelly Beach.
We were all very conscious of how the cleanliness only improved substantially the nearer we got to the Cape – the exceptions being Mthatha, Dutywa and Butterworth.
The homes and buildings in the Cape were well maintained and brightly painted with streets properly cleared of rubbish.
What reasons can be put forward for the difference in the state of cleanliness of Gauteng and KZN compared to the Cape?
