Letter: Election arithmetic

Electioneering at its best or worst?

Denis Aspden of Salt Rock has been doing some arithmetic: Some interesting facts emerge from President Ramaphosa’s visit to Alexandra recently.

He claimed the ANC government had built four million homes since 1994.

This is not true, they have built 3,3 million over 25 years of governing.

He then stated that one million homes would be built around the country in the next five years. Do the sums and this equates to 200 000 per year or 547 per day!

If they can build a home for just R100 000 this would amount to R100 billion.

Incidentally, according to news reports, the department of Human Settlements claimed they knew nothing about such a plan. Electioneering at its best or worst?
