What really happens to all the rates paid month on month, year on year in Salt Rock and Ballito?
We just came back from voting at the municipal buildings at Salt Rock.
The building is in a poor state from lack of maintenance and parts of the concrete structure look ready to fall down. The area around the car park is full of rubbish and weeds and grass growing out of the paving.
Why can’t they employ someone to keep the area looking good? With so much unemployment the Council could easily employ lots of people to clean the streets. The roads and street lights around Ballito and Salt Rock are subject to constant complaints and for a place that relies on the tourist industry it is a poor effort.
I have paid rates and taxes in Ballito and Salt Rock for 10 years but only moved here about three years ago and the same potholes first noticed are still evident. Is it just incompetence or a punishment for owning a property in a predominantly white area?
While there are lots of protests and burning of tyres etc for service delivery maybe we should do the same or even withhold the rates.
What is so difficult about cleaning, repairing roads and street lights? Perhaps not enough money can be made from the tender.
