Letter: A secret society?

Unfortunately, I missed the DOCRRA AGM however I would like to comment on certain matters:

I was a paid-up member of DOCRRA but was never, ever advised of any interim meetings by the committee.

It would appear as if members are only there to pay their subscriptions and to merely accept what the committee considers necessary. DOCRRA must realise that the organization exists to fight for the residents and ratepayers and to obtain the requested information for its members and others as to where their rates, taxes, and government grants are being spent.

DOCRRA is not there to congratulate a municipality on its audit simply because it did not spend the money provided by the government in grants.

I had one meeting with Mr D Viljoen who wanted information I had regarding the traffic being generated by Ballito Hills and possibly the next two adjacent developments, and how to get that traffic out of Ballito without gridlocking the entire top area.

It is painfully obvious that there is no way whatsoever that the existing road exits from that area are capable of taking a further +8500 vehicles at peak periods, excluding holiday traffic, this being due to a complete lack of forward planning by the municipality.

I provided the information that I had available. I never received any feedback as to how DOCRRA was going to use that information. It appears to have been ignored.

Feedback would be appreciated but obviously is of little importance to the DOCRRA committee who are similar to a secret society by not providing their members with information, even by a monthly or bi-monthly e-mailed newsletter.
