Thandi Ngcobo of Palm Lakes Estate writes: May God bless you Lungile Khumalo (Mntungwa) for your letter (Deserted at lunchtime, June 7), including your friend and neighbours, for sharing your blessings with those who are less fortunate than you and for also taking time to explore ways in which you can help further enrich their lives.
May He bless you also for sharing your concerns with the Courier community regarding the challenge you and your friend experienced when you tried to elicit the Mandeni Department of Social Development (DSD) branch’s assistance in addressing the gentleman of focus’s challenges.
Hopefully, your letter will persuade Ms Nikiwe Ntombela and the staff she supervises to revisit their lunchtime arrangement which, although works for them (‘… makes our working process faster’), appears to exclude some members of the community they are meant to serve such as the gentleman Mntungwa was trying to assist.
Granted, balancing staff needs with the Batho Pele principles can be really daunting.
However, a little bit of determination and some selflessness in tandem with the staff’s very noble profession may go a long way in achieving such a balance.
