Letter: Crime plan will infringe on citizens’ rights

George Gray of Ballito writes:

I have read the article “Residents hope to unite community against crime” (Courier, July 26) with interest and concluded that this is another get rich quick scheme similar to the Urban Improvement Programme.

Try to find a UIP employee actually working is like looking for a needle in an haystack. You cannot infringe on the citizens’ rights of security if not by the police then by a security firm of their choice.

DOCCRA, the DA and the media should rather be pressurising the government to provide a police station in the greater Ballito area. The unfinished building that has stood half built for the past 12 years next to Hirsch’s would be ideal as it’s in the industrial area, has plenty of space for SAPS offices, has plenty of space for cells. and has plenty of parking for the police cars that appear to be currently broken down if you want the police.

We all pay taxes for this so why is the taxpayer’s security not looked after by the police nearby, not 14km away?

Obviously all the mentioned parties are blind. Try driving down the M4 and note the road sign just pat the Ashton school traffic lights. Going out of Ballito it states “WELCOME TO BALLITO”. This is obviously the brainless KDM at it’s best and none of the parties mentioned in this letter have noted this.

Getting back to the this security matter, get yourselves together and force an issue with KDM and the government and get a fully-manned police station. Currently this area is drawing in criminals as they consider it to be a rich area.
