I am writing to query the function of the UIP in our Ballito community hoping that changes be made to our beautiful town for the better.

I live in Zen Drive in Ballito. I have noticed that none of the street lights are working, and have not been working for this entire year.

This is not isolated to Zen Drive and I find this unacceptable.

It encourages crime and is a danger to motorists and pedestrians.

The stop sign on the corner or Jacqueline and Zen Drive was crashed into about three months ago and a street light was struck by lightning about four months ago and both lie discarded on the side of the road.

My home is on the market and on three occasions the UIP has removed the estate agent’s For Sale adverts on my pavement.

This upsets me because it is clear that they are active in our community, but they are not concentrating on issues that protect and secure our area.

Dieter Fittkau of the UIP replies:

The Ballito UIP is a commercial property owners’ initiative that is focused on a specific area.

The area in question being the Ballito Business park on both sides of the M4 and the P445 (this being the road bisecting Lifestyle Centre and The Junction) as well as Ballito Drive, the Lower Ballito CBD and the Promenade.

Zen Drive is unfortunately not located within the UIP precinct.

The alleged removal of for sale signs is very puzzling and I encourage Mr Koblischke to pop in to our office at The Junction for clarity.

I suggest that Mr Koblischke takes up his concerns directly with the municipality.
