We see from an article in the Independent on Saturday that Ravi Ronny from Sanral, who is the manager of planning and construction for KZN, intends to spend R8,5 billion upgrading both the N2 and N3.
This is a very noble statement from him, considering that they have not been able to repair the North bound stretch of the N2 between Salt Rock and the Tinley Manor offramp. The excuses for not attending to this are legend, and stretch back many years. If I am not mistaken the last excuse was lack of finances to complete the job!
Whilst pleading poverty, it is extremely difficult to accept, as only a few weeks ago they had a full-page advert in the Sunday Times at huge cost, and have a two-minute advertorial running at cinema complexes advising of all their grand plans. It has to be said that the cost of these must be eye watering, and certainly not needed, as they do not have any competition.
It appears that the very strategically important N2 highway to the North, does not appear to exist past Umdloti, in the eyes of Mr Ronny.
