The streetlights in and around Ballito continue to frustrate residents. There was much elation when we finally saw some ‘light at the end of the tunnel’. Sadly, this has not proven to be a lasting solution. Many of the repaired streetlights once again have plunged our streets into darkness.
These were fixed as a combined project between a contractor and the municipality. We must question the workmanship and supervision of both parties. We cannot continue to fund substandard workmanship from both contractors and staff.
There must be sufficient funds allocated in the budget in the future to allow for timeous maintenance and repairs, and the end goal must be to achieve a turnaround time to repair reported streetlight faults, within a given time frame.
