Letters: Waste of traffic officers

The saga of traffic lights at various intersections, particularly at Tiffany’s, continues.

The traffic officers do a terrific job keeping the traffic flowing during morning and evening rush hours. Needless to say, using traffic officers to do pointsman duties is a waste of manpower, as these officers should be policing our roads.

Way back in January, your paper reported that Cobus Oelofse of Ilembe Chamber put forward an initiative to KDM and a very good solution to the problem.

The Chamber would work with a specialist company in “traffic free flow” who would train and be responsible for employing and managing pointsmen at problematic intersections. What a fantastic solution.

Naturally one would have thought that the council would have jumped at this “win win” solution.

We are now 10 months down the road and still we do not have traffic lights or specially trained points man.

It would appear that no one is prepared to make a decision about anything.
