Letter: KDM comes to the rescue in the pouring rain

Annalen and Howard Balcomb of Blythedale write:

On the evening of October 22 the heavens opened up and at about 6pm we realised that Blythedale’s main stormwater drain (which is located on the road just outside of our property) was blocked.

The water was rising relentlessly and threatened to flood not only our property but that of our immediate neighbours as well.

We needed help desperately and so I called Elias from Ilembe who gave me the details of Mxolisi Cele, the manager of the department of civil engineering at KDM.

I left a message with Mr Cele.

He called back in five minutes assuring me that he would find a way to help us. Within half an hour, he had assembled a team of four workers who he had picked up in his own personal car with all of their equipment. He stayed with his team late into the night, working tirelessly in the pouring rain and the dark until the drain was cleared.

I want to thank Mr Cele and his team for their dedication and hard work. It’s refreshing to see upstanding people who truly care and who work tirelessly to help to improve things for their community. Thank you Mr Cele, may God bless you.
