On Mdoni Road about 50 metres from the coastal road at Salt Rock, there used to be a pothole. It was quite big but manageable.
The vehicles could avoid it quite easily although when you hit it you knew there had to be damage somewhere on your vehicle. Then last week along came a road repair crew. Hoorah, said everyone, the pothole is being filled.
The next day I noticed that the repaired pothole had a small depression with rainwater in it. Strange I thought, could this be right? The next day I saw that the depression was bigger and deeper.
Can this repair possibly last five or 10 years?
Of course it can’t. It has now after a few days become an even bigger pothole.
One so big that it is now almost impossible to avoid. What is happening here?
How hopeless is this repair team? How are they ever going to cope with even the simplest of jobs?
How are we ever going to catch up with the enormous work that has to be done to avoid third world status? Things will have to be done soon.
