Letter: Be merry, be safe

Simon Timothy Dehal of Verulam writes:

Best wishes to all readers and families and all associated with our beloved country for a Happy Christmas and blessed New Year whether from a religious or non-religious perspective.

Christians celebrate Christ’s birth knowing that He was born to die for our redemption and abundant and eternal life.

In all our fun and merriment let us be mindful of the many who cannot or will not be celebrating or holidaying due to various factors and circumstances such as bereavement of someone close, illness, poverty, loneliness etc.

At this time people must be wary of criminals and fraudsters who abound seeking soft targets. One must be also wise with one’s finances so that one is not burdened by debt due to greed, imprudence or lack of discipline.

May all who are travelling have safe travels. Road users are implored to be patient, considerate and cautious. Road rage is a scourge.

As in Isaiah 9:6, may peace, harmony and goodwill abound together with tolerance, selflessness, cooperation and persons living in unison and love with one another so that the world will be a better place.

It is a fervent prayer that crime, fraud, corruption, looting and other evils that plague Mzansi will be severally curtailed.

Other evils to be wary of are having poor role models, debt, promiscuity with unwanted and teenage pregnancies and foolishly trying to keep up with the Joneses/Mkhizes/Naidoos/Khans/Singhs.

These are just as bad as the evils of injustice, disease, poverty and lack of proper housing and schooling facilities for the teeming millions. Government must intervene speedily and appropriately in the latter regard.

May all South Africans, international visitors and all associated with our glorious country enjoy the diverse pleasures and facilities of this great country. God bless.
