I read with disappointment the front-page article where it is stated that Umhlali SAPS has one only vehicle (One car for 66 cops at Umhlali, Courier, February 7).
There is no doubt that the station, like many others in the country is under-resourced, both in staff and vehicles, but any person who has gone to the station for whatever reason, will have seen that there is certainly more than one vehicle.
The community at large has gotten behind the station on a number of projects, be it the Trauma Centre, the Canine Unit, or simply for general maintenance as they understand the challenges the station faces.
To state as fact information on the front page of a community paper without verification could send the wrong message to criminal syndicates.
Perhaps a retraction is in order?
It is disturbing if that information is not correct.
The claim was made by the Umhlali SAPS spokesperson, Capt Vinnie Pillay, at a public meeting. A retraction, if necessary, should come from Umhlali SAPS – Editor.
