In answer to the letter “Behaviour getting worse” (February 21), I’d like to draw attention to someone who has literally taken the bull by the horns and has organised a team of K9 security officers to patrol along our beachfront from 6am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday.
They are controlling alcohol being consumed in public, as well as preventing it being taken onto the beach, and are also on the lookout for any unacceptable behaviour.
He is so committed to this project that this is currently being financed from his own pocket.
Judging by comments received, in the short span of time from inception to action, so far there has been a very noticeable improvement in the area at weekends.
Dane John has set out his plan of action and posted it on Dolphin Coast Neighbours FB page as well as K9 Dolphin Coast Security WhatsApp group, for general perusal.
We are all aware that if this problem, which seems to be on the increase, is not brought under control urgently, our beautiful town will be getting a bad name as criminals are now targeting Ballito, due to known lack of security, where other coastal towns have managed to control the situation and chase them away.
This will lead to turning tourists against our area and ultimately will hit our businesses and property values.
Time to act, fellow residents and show we are all involved and concerned!
