Letter: Shame on us

I am part of the privileged folk in SA, yet I choose not to complain and blame the present government but look deeper and lay the blame on myself and the past government and how we treated the beautiful majority of people in our country.

Carolyn Harris of Ballito writes:

I feel I need to comment on Lorene von Weichart’s letter (Financial hostage, February 21).

Everything you mentioned that was good for a few but absolutely dreadful for the majority.

Indeed, shame on us, the minority in our beautiful country to have had the privileges the majority were denied and yet complain we do.

I am part of the privileged folk in SA, yet I choose not to complain and blame the present government but look deeper and lay the blame on myself and the past government and how we treated the beautiful majority of people in our country.

Shame on us indeed, if we the minority haven’t changed our mind set and accepted our part to play in the errors of the past.

We need to apologise for the part we played in the history of our country.

I hope you will be open to changing how you think now that you have started this channel of communication on the subject.

I would rather be in this current situation than still living in a country that had everything running and well-oiled for a privileged few.

Oh if only the ANC had come into power in 1912 everyone in SA would be a whole lot better off ‘but alas we do know and still we allow this insanity to prevail. Shame on us.’
