Letter: Poor increase for pensioners

"Pensioners of the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) have been awarded a miserly 3.6 percent increase from April 1" - Lutchmiah Naidoo.

Lutchmiah Naidoo of Tongaat writes:

During the lockdown, reading items of news makes an interesting escape from normal times.

Pensioners of the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) have been awarded a miserly 3.6 percent increase from April 1.

Yet the GEPF has invested millions of Rands in the Public Investment Corporation.

Could we have a list of items used to calculate the Consumer Price Index?

Every year, municipalities increase their costs.

eThekwini has proposed: electricity 6,9 percent, water 9,9 percent, sewage and refuse 9.9 percent, salary increases of officials 6.25 percent.

President Ramaphosa is commended on getting his entire executive to donate one third of their salaries for the next three months to the Solidarity Fund.

Please can sometime tell us what salary increase they got or will get.
