Netcare Alberlito Hospital manager Thulasizwe Mngadi writes:
We at Netcare Alberlito Hospital wish to express our warmest thanks to the Dolphin Coast community, who rallied around to support us in one of the most difficult times ever faced by our facility, our town and indeed, our province.
The destruction and violence witnessed by us all during the unrest of the previous week was beyond anything we could have imagined, particularly while we continue to battle the third wave of Covid-19 and our nation works towards greater momentum with the vaccination rollout.
During this time, we however also witnessed incredible acts of kindness.
Families, individuals and local businesses made special efforts to assist our hospital staff, such as sponsoring food hampers and even preparing hot meals for them.
Others volunteered to help at the hospital when some of our staff were unable to get transport to work, while our neighbour, Ballito Engen and Convenience Store, arranged a designated petrol bay for healthcare workers so they would not have to spend precious time in the queue.
The difference this made to the morale of the staff and doctors at our facility was significant, as many of them faced additional pressure due to difficult and sometimes dangerous circumstances in travelling to and from work each day.
We take our hats off to each and every one of these dedicated healthcare workers at our hospital for continuing to prioritise patient care above all else, and to the Dolphin Coast community for their support.
We are honoured to be part of this truly special and close-knit community, and we are privileged to be of service to you.
Providing care is our calling, it is our driving purpose and we pledge to continue doing this to the best of our ability, always.
