Mark Whitehead of Ballito writes:
In 1994 the country set sail on the SAS Mzanzi.
There was much joy and fanfare and all the passengers were promised a rainbow nation.
But, alas, 27 years later there have been no rainbows.
Only rough seas and lots of storms.
The passengers have become divided into the 1st class politically connected elite, 2nd class Joes who pay their taxes, and the poor and unemployed 3rd class.
The problem is that the crew we expect to serve us, the parliamentarians and government, have been telling the 3rd class passengers that they are suffering on this voyage because of the 2nd class passengers.
It is their fault that there are no services and that their conditions are cramped.
Two weeks ago, many realised that we have been on a 27-year voyage to nowhere.
The 3rd class revolted. Both 2nd and 3rd class have come to the realisation that the captain and crew are incompetent.
It is time to fire them and appoint a new captain and crew that serves all.
I am tired of empty promises.
The democratic system has been exploited for personal gain of a select few.
We need to get our country off the rocks.
None of the current political parties have served our needs.
We have a chance at the local elections coming up.
Let’s appoint a new crew.
A new captain.
Those that have the right skills to get our ship off the rocks and to sail where we the passengers want to go.
