George Dunn of Sheffield Beach writes:
There has been a huge amount of talk around vaccination, and sadly there appears to be a pushback from those who are anti-vaccination.
Many countries around the world have vaccinated the majority of their population, and this has resulted in a tremendous drop in the number of deaths from Covid and the numbers of people requiring hospitalisation.
The United Kingdom, which has a similar population size as ourselves, +/- 60 million, has vaccinated 75% of their population over the age of 18, with the same vaccines as we are using here.
Last week the United Kingdom recorded 30 000 positive cases, with only 50 deaths.
Of the 50 people who died, 40 were unvaccinated.
By contrast we had 2 500 positive cases, and 150 deaths, and again the majority were of unvaccinated people. Incidentally our figures are 40% down since the introduction of the vaccine rollout.
Once we have the majority of adults fully vaccinated, we will be removed from the International Red List of countries who regard us as “not safe to visit”.
Being on this list has crippled if not broken our tourist industry, which employs millions of people directly and indirectly.
If we do not get our economy moving, people back into work, the countries downward trajectory can only accelerate.
Therefore, we do hope that those who are “anti-vaccination” will think of others before they say no.
The vaccination will not kill you! And you have a much greater chance of dying from Covid if you don’t vaccinate.
