Ward 53 councillor Geoff Pullan writes:
May I take this opportunity to thank all our beach officials for their sterling efforts over the festive season.
Admittedly we were helped by the rainy weather, but the real plus was that no alcohol was allowed on our beaches.
The Metro Police were on duty 24/7 to control this issue.
National and provincial government also regularly announced that no alcohol was permitted at SA beaches.
The public responded positively to this enforcement, and local residents encouraged our beach officials… even with cool drinks.
Some Westbrook Beach residents tidied up the beachfront and smartened up the umbrellas too.
They have plans to make more improvements in future, and we thank them for their generous efforts in funds and time.
The La Mercy and Umdloti residents also pitched in to keep their beachfronts clean and tidy.
This Christmas spirit was beautifully illustrated by a tree for the children at the La Mercy circle.
The active involvement of the community, together with officials, has shown why this part of eThekwini is so popular.
