#Letter: Know your rubbles from your rumbles

"It is a warning sign which reads, "WARNING: RUBBLE STRIPS AHEAD". Surely RUMBLE strips have been around for a long time?" - Rose Ferguson.

Rose Ferguson of Ballito writes:

As an educationalist I am concerned by the seemingly degeneration of the English language in South Africa.

My concerns were heightened this week when I read a sign on the newly built detour road on the R102 near Compensation where the devastating floods damaged a small bridge.

It is a warning sign which reads, “WARNING: RUBBLE STRIPS AHEAD”. Surely RUMBLE strips have been around for a long time?

I wonder who was commissioned to print the sign?
