Catch Ballito’s Rubin Wissing on 7de Laan tonight!

Rubin, a former Crawford North Coast pupil, will play the role of Ludwig ('Ludo') Venter.

Lovers of the hit Afrikaans television series, 7de Laan will look forward to catching Ballito local, Rubin Wissing on the show this evening (Thursday, November 12).

Rubin, a 24-year-old former Crawford North Coast pupil, says that he has been passionate about acting ever since primary school.

He will play the role of Ludwig (‘Ludo’) Venter, a flirtatious, adventurous and funny character who will form part of the younger cast of 7de Laan’s Hillside.

Having studied for a BA Live Performance, Rubin obtained his qualification at AFDA, The School for The Creative Economy.

“To those wanting to break into the industry, I would say just go for it. If it really is your passion, the opportunity will come when the time is right,” said Rubin.

“Early on I recognised that if I was ever going to really ever make a worthy contribution to any production or team I would have to learn all I could about my craft. That’s why I chose to study an acting degree.”

Speaking about his character, Rubin says that he and Ludo share some similarities, especially in that they are both eccentric characters who love interacting with the world around them, especially people.

“So even though we are ‘different people’, I don’t have to go too far out of myself to find authentic moments which suit Ludo’s character.”

Although no bloopers or funny behind-the-scenes moments have presented themselves for sharing just yet, Rubin says he will keep us all up-to-date on when these present themselves.

In the meantime, Rubin says that he’s made many amazing friendships, especially within the ‘young bunch crowd’.

“It’s really awesome to have other actors who are willing to share and have fun with each other within a creative space.

“I’m learning so much about acting and the industry from both the cast and crew around me and that’s just priceless.”

But it’s not all fun and games, as Rubin reminds those keen on breaking into the industry.

A lot of hard work and preparation goes into the behind-the-scenes to ensure that things run smoothly on set, he said.

“That being said, the balance of professionalism and playfulness ever present, makes being at work an enjoyable experience to be a part of.

“There isn’t a day where I haven’t had a fat laugh.”
