Shakashead fighters to compete at Nationals
Shakashead marshal arts club fighters are off to the Nationals in Johannesburg .
Shakashead marshal arts club fighters scooped 11 medals at the Richards Bay San Kwan KZN championships that were held on September 1.
The club sent 15 of their best taekwondo fighters and they did not disappoint as six brought home gold, three took silver and two captured bronze.
Their trainer, Lucky Ndlovu, said he was extremely proud of his young “warriors” and said even those who did not win still showed good sportsmanship and supported their peers.
“We are now preparing for the national championships that will be held in Johannesburg at the end of the month and I hope my team can bring out the same great fighting skills they showed in Richards Bay,” said Ndlovu.
He said they were currently looking for sponsors to help pay for transport to Johannesburg as most of the club members came from disadvantaged homes.
“It is always hard on the child when they have to stay behind because their parents cannot afford to pay travelling costs to a tournament, so we are appealing to donors to help where they can,” concluded Ndlovu.
Some of the club’s members also hope to travel with Ndlovu to the world championships in Russia next year. For more information contact Ndlovu on 072 314 2351.
