Government employees in Ilembe district battled it out on the sports field during the “Work and Play Games”, in Stanger last Friday.
The netball and volleyball matches were played at Stanger Recreational Grounds, while soccer took place at Stanger High School.
Social workers, teachers, police, nurses and other municipal officials all donned their sports gear and broke a sweat as they competed for the top honours in their respective events.
For some the passion was there, but it soon became evident who had been spending more time as spectators in recent years.
The justice department soccer team clearly lacked some young blood to run with the ball as they could easily get the ball from their competitors but failed to drive it to the goal line.
SAPS KwaDukuza cluster won the final match against Stanger Hospital and got themselves a trophy and playing kit.
In netball the nurses and teachers teams both showed endurance but the teachers had more skill both to defend and score goals. The education department took home the champions trophy and a netball kit leaving second place to Mandeni municipality and Stanger Hospital to take third place.
