Youth soccer weekend blaring success
20 teams battled it out at local soccer tournament at the Glendale sports ground.
Thousands of Glendale youths took time out to enjoy a weekend of soccer when 20 football teams competed against each other at the Glendale sport field on Saturday and Sunday.
Six Dollars FC were the victors of the tournament after a goal-less draw against Maverick FC. The match was forced to a penalty shoot out where Six Dollar won by 4-2.
Neither team looked to take the lead in the early moments of the match as both played counter attacking football.
As the game progressed Six Dollars created some scoring chances but striker Sizwe Gumede failed to put the ball in the back of the net on a number of occasions.
“The match was not challenging however we failed to use the chances we created. We are just grateful that we won the tournament, ” said Gumede.
Maverick’s defense had difficulties dealing with Lindokuhle Khuzwayo who played brilliant football throughout the tournament.
On their way to victory Six Dollar smashed Highlanders FC, claimed another penalty shoot out win against Scorpion FC and recorded an impressive win against Black Stars FC.
The tournament was organised by Qwabe development CEO S’yabonga Madlala.
“What a great sport function. I was amazed by the atmosphere on the field,” said Madlala. Six Dollar walked away with a full soccer kit and a sheep.
