Miss Ballito, Shelley Buckle completed her 10th Tsogo Sun Amashova Durban Classic on Saturday October 12.
Shelly rode the 65km half challenge with her fiancé Nick Ferreria.
“This race is special to me because it has been a family tradition. Ever since I was 14 we have been riding together, encouraging each other and crossing the finish line at the same time. I even broke my arm during the race when I was 16 and carried on cycling and finished the race. It is always something I view as an obstacle I overcame,” said Shelley.
The Tsogo Sun Amashova Durban Classic was established in 1986 and is according to its official website the oldest classic cycle race in South Africa. This year for the first time the race formed part of the UCI World Cycling Tour, being included in the amateur worlds qualifier series. The 106km classic starting at City Hall, Pietermaritzburg and finishing at Suncoast, Durban carried a prise purse of R100 000.
