Always remember your township roots
Nkobongo sporting hero talks youth in home town.
“You must always have your township in your hearts, and wherever you go and whatever you do remember that you represent Nkobongo.”
Speaking at the Nkobongo Club Development junior level awards day on December 7, Nkobongo sporting hero Ajibha Ntamila said it was his dream to see more sporting stars coming from his home town.
Most people will remember Ntamila from 1988, when he got himself into the history books of Amazulu when he scored an incredible goal against Dynamos, resulting in a 3-2 win.
From 2007 to 2010 he was the coach of Shakaskraal team, Globe City FC, at the time the team was playing in the Vodacom League.
“Achieving this is only possible through discipline and dedication from you as young sports people,” said Ntamila.
He said they are fortunate they have the support of their families and the community.
“When I was young we had no one to support us but we kept on pushing. I am happy to see parents attending this event to support their children,” he said.
The sport and recreation department also sponsored the Nkobongo club with a new sports kit, which was received with jubilation.
Sbonelo Nyawuza of Bayern FC was awarded player of the season, while Qhawe Ngcobo of Ndofaya FC was the top goal scorer.
Sunrise FC Coach Phumulani Mlungu received a medal for being the youngest coach in the league.
