Nippers cruise into the new year
Ballito lifesaving Club welcomed a lot of new faces this year.
The new year has started on a high note for the Ballito Lifesaving Club as they welcomed a lot of new faces.
The first training sessions focused on teaching the Niplets and Nippers some lifesaving theory as well as practical skills such as different rescue techniques, body-boarding and duck diving under waves.
The club knows how to have fun too and, organised by Delia Herbst, they invited a group of 47 parents and children on an Isle of Capri sunset cruise last Friday.
Under the watchful eye of Captain Bennie to keep them safe in the swells, everyone got to know each other better.
The following day, four Niplets and seven Nippers took part in the last Lifesaving KZN Carnival of the season.
It was a proud day for the club, as many top ten finishes were achieved across all age groups.
The Nippers were particularly brave and had no difficulty negotiating the big waves.
The little Niplets, who are between six and seven years old, challenged the under nines and tens from our club as well as other Durban clubs in two beach relay events and they did not make it easy for the older children.
If you are interested in lifesaving, keep an eye out for the following exciting events coming up: Lifesaving SA Nipper Level Examinations, Junior Lifeguard Award Examinations, KZN Nipper Championships, SA Stillwater Lifesaving Nationals and the 2nd Annual Ballito Lifesaving Club Championships.
If anyone would like to join the club, please email the club on ballitoslc@gmail.com and they will reply with all the joining information.
