Players completed their fitness training before Christmas and club practice has commenced with an average of 40 players breaking a sweat on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5.30 pm at the Salt Rock country club.

“We have acquired eight new players from different parts of the country and the turnout is better than this time last year,” said club chairman Kevin Murphy.

“Our goal is to have 60 elite squad players with enough depth and strength to field two competitive teams,” he said.

Club vice chairman, Mark Svenningsen is also the junior club chairman and is looking to recruit junior players to re-energise this crucial section of the club and put together seven teams ranging from U6 to U18.

“The junior club launch will be held on February 20 and will comprise of a training session, an opportunity to meet the coaches, information session and of course, a braai,” said Svenningsen.

The Ballito Dolphins have joined forces with Surre, England based Esher rugby club which has already donated rugby kit for the Dolphins’ development squad and has committed to raising funds to help kids with transport and other related costs.

“As far as our new fields at Sugar Rush are concerned, we finished with seeding in early December and hope to move to start using the fields by early February,” said Murphy.

He said construction of the clubhouse at Sugar Rush will commence once the club has raised the necessary funds.

“Hopefully contributors will come forward once they see the Dolphins being active and growing,” said Murphy.
