Rugby initiative: Play as you learn
Ballito Dolphins Club can now offer internship programmes for players.
The Ballito Dolphins rugby club has joined forces with Talk International and Dream Wealth in a mutually beneficial partnership to roll out an internship programme for club rugby players.
“This is a player initiative to keep 18 to 24-year-olds in our town and help those who are unable to afford to go to university to get qualified,” said club chairman Kevin Murphy.
The club hopes the internship programme will help fill the void in the U20 age group left by kids going off to university.
“This is a great development platform that is not colour-specific. We want kids from different schools in the district like Shakaskraal, Crawford and Tongaat to integrate and play on one team,” said Murphy.
“The club must be representative of the larger Ballito area demographic,” said junior club chairman Mark Svenningsen.
“The partnership gives talented club rugby players the opportunity for an interview but Talk International and Dream Wealth will make the final pick,” said Murphy.
To sweeten the deal, Talk International CEO, Paul Cogan agreed to waive the registration fee for the Dolphin kids.
Kevin, Paul and their teams are excited about the partnership allowing kids to learn not only rugby skills but also life skills to take them forward in their careers.
More information is available on the club’s website.
