Brigitte von Buddenbrock was Ballito’s golden girl at at hotly contended Lifesaving South Africa 2016 Nipper Championships held in Durban on April 1 and 2.

Von Buddenbrock, who lives in Ballito but represents the Umhlanga Rox Nippers, raked in two gold medals for the female U10 flags and long beach run (800 metres). She was also placed sixth in sprints, tenth in bodyboard and was part of the mixed beach relay team which was placed sixth.

She pipped the eventual female U10 overall champion, Madison Bright from King’s Beach, Port Elizabeth, to scoop the flag event.

Lifesaving is Von Buddenbrock’s absolute passion and she just loves running. Her sheer determination and positive attitude combined with rock solid focus in competition sets her apart at this year’s nationals.

Von Buddenbrock is not the only Dolphin Coast athlete who did well at nationals.

Aaron Turner (U9) was placed seventh in the long beach run, ninth in boys surf swim and was part of the mixed beach relay team that was placed eighth.

Tristan Turner ( U13) was placed tenth in the long beach run and missed the flags finals by the skin of his teeth.

The turner brothers also represented the Umhlanga Rox Nippers team that consequently was placed second overall in the championships with a grand aggregate of 359 points behind the super strong Durban Surf who dominated to end on 694 points.
