Zimbali wins Lifestyle Golf Challenge

Some of the more recognisable faces in sport and local business came together at Zimbali Country Club for the Lifestyle Golf Challenge last week.

It was hosted by the Ilembe Chamber of Commerce’s Tourism Standing Committee and aims to promote Ilembe’s credentials as a golf tourism destination by showcasing the region’s golf tourism products.

The event consisted of a Celebrity Challenge, played over two days, at four of the premier golf courses on the Dolphin Coast namely, Prince’s Grant, Simbithi CC, Umhlali CC and Zimbali CC as well as a golf day open to local businesses.

The celebrity teams were, for Princes Grant, Hannes vd Merwe (National Amateur Golf Tournament participant) and Christopher Matungwana; for Simbithi Country Club, Peter Matkovich (professional golfer and international golf course designer) and Elbert du Plessis; for Umhlali Country Club, Adilson da Silva (professional golfer and holder of the record for the most consecutive cuts made on the Sunshine Tour with 43) and Derick Reincke; and for Zimbali Country Club, Robbie Frylinck (Highveld Lions and Dolphins Cricketer) and Mike Louth.

High quality golf was the order of the day but when the final put fell it was the team from Zimbali who walked away with the honours and bragging rights in the Celebrity Challenge.

In the corporate golf day it was team Elan, consisting of Mark De La Hey, Andrew Thompson, Joe Marais and Grant Pepizodi, who came out on top while team IFA’s Adriaan van Schhor, Dennis De Silva, Gary Wilson and Chris Speirs were second and team Dischem/Lifestyle’s Dave Faber, A Birnie, G Birnie and D Hammerich took third place.
