Going bananas for bowls

Not only were the greens full but the club buzzed afterwards with a wonderful atmosphere.

A busy bowling period has been enjoyed by the Umhlali Country Club bowls players.

The first game was the Pick ‘n Pay competition played on February 27, and the worthy winners were: Moira Hutchison (skip), Clive Faulkner and Sylvia Saunders.

Three days later saw UCC’s two greens wonderfully full.

Not only were the greens full but the club buzzed afterwards with a wonderful atmosphere.

The winners of the Brettenwood competition were: Norman Barter, Liz Foster, Beryl Goldman and Dave riley (Skip)
On March 6 the Ear Institute drawn competition was won by Schalk Spamer (skip), Butch Joubert, Diane de Wet and Des Lavery.

Goodwill Trips tournament winners Jan Pretorius, Schalk Spamer (skip) and Rod Bishop.

A few days later on March 9 a new competition was held – the Goodwill Trips. This was won by Jan Pretorius, Schalk Spamer (skip) and Rod Bishop.

The Novice Singles (held on March 10) runner up was Roland di Pasquale and the worthy winner was Robert de Kock.

The format for the UCC Sports Festival has been arranged and all games will be “drawn,” in other words there are no nominated teams and teams will be picked on the day once all names are in.

For the Festival “mufti” dress will apply which means you can wear what you wish as long as you wear flat shoes or sandals.

  • Friday 23 March Will be a fun game starting at 1.30pm – to report by 1pm with prizes to be won
  • Saturday 24 March “Bring a Buddy”. Starting at 1.30pm – to report by 1pm. The Buddies will get a free game. Come and enjoy the afternoon of bowls and then a drink in our clubhouse before joining the rest of the Club members in the main club. This is an opportunity for non-bowlers to come and join in, have fun and try out bowling!
  • Sunday 25 March Once again a drawn competition with prizes.
