Cricket legends cry victorious

The club hosted their Big Bash Tournament at Gledhow Cricket ground on Saturday and Sunday 26 and 27 May, six teams participated in two groups of three, with the winners from each playing in the final.

Celebrating their 20th anniversary, Manor Cricket Club hosted a weekend of fun with bat and ball that saw the Legends team crowned winners.

The club hosted their Big Bash Tournament at Gledhow Cricket ground on Saturday and Sunday 26 and 27 May, six teams participated in two groups of three, with the winners from each playing in the final.

Pak 1 defeated Manor Cricket Club in the opening match and team 707 in their second match to secure a spot in the final.

In the 707 vs Pak 1 match, Pak 1 batted first and posted 100 runs in their allotted eight overs. Nabeel Yousaf was the top scorer with 24 runs. In reply, 707 posted 90 in eight overs.

The Legends team, comprised of A Ramduth, A Bageloo, S Bageloo, S Logenathan, M Logenathan, C Pillay, S Singh and R Naidoo defeated both Pak 2 and Pak 3 to reach the final.

Against Pak 3 the Legends bowled first and restricted them to just 64 runs.

The Legends then chased down the total for the loss of only one wicket, with S.Logenathan (26 not out) and C Pillay (11 not out) seeing them home.

In the final, the Legends bowled first and bowled Pak 1 all out for just 50 runs.

The Legends bowlers were on fire, with C Pillay taking two wickets for a mere one run, A Bageloo two wickets for four runs, M Logenathan one wicket for three runs and R Naidoo one wicket for eight runs. They were also outstanding on the field with two magnificent run outs.

The top scorers for Pak 1 were Ali Sher with eight runs, and Z Ali also with eight.

In reply, Legends openers A Bageloo and C Pillay were in complete control of the situation and seemed to score at will.

Bageloo was caught for 13 off the bowling of Adnan in the 4th over. Pillay was then joined by R Naidoo and they took the total to 41 in the sixth over before Naidoo was caught for eight runs. S Loganathan came and went with his first ball before M Loganathen joined Pillay to steer the Legends ship to glory with Pillay hitting the winning boundary to finish on an an unbeaten 23 runs.

Special awards where given for the day’s play as follows:

  • Best batsman: Ram Singh (team 707).
  • Best bowler: S. Logenathan (Legends).
  • Best fielder: A Pillay (Manor Cricket Club).
  • Player of the tournament: A Bageloo (Legends).
