Ilembe’s top cricket talent

A few young cricketers from the Ilembe district were selected to represent KZN.

The Ilembe and District Cricket Union celebrated local cricketers at their awards ceremony in Stanger last Friday.

When addressing the guests, the Ilembe and District Cricket Union president, Aboo Ismali said he hoped that all coaches and administrators continue to “focus on cricket” so that they can get all their players to play as a unit to represent them in the Premier League.

He went on to appeal to clubs to send all their players with the potential to play at a higher level to come forward and represent the Union.

At the awards ceremony the players were awarded as follows:

• T20A Batting and Bowling Awards – Adesh Bagelo of Manor CC and Uzair Ebrahim of Dawnheights respectivly.

• T20B Batting and Bowling Awards – Adnan Akhtar Abbass of Pak International and Nhlakanipho Mthambo of Mandeni.

• 50 Overs Batting and Bowling Awards – Sachin Solanki of Dawnheights and Suveer Dewlal of Morningside.

• T20 Under 16 Batting and Bowling Awards – Shravan Maharaj of Dawnheights and Dilion Subrayen of Morningside.

• Challenge League Steam 1 Batting and Bowling Awards – Cameron Pillay and Ismail Mahomed.

Overall, the Manor CC won the T20A League, Pak International won the T20B League and Dawnheights won the 50 Overs and the T20 Under 16 Leagues.

A few young cricketers from the Ilembe district were selected to represent KZN.

Ismail Mahomed and A Nadasen represented the KZN country district.

R Mhlongo and Mayuran Logenathan represented the KZN rural side. Michal Jones, Kaden Mc Allister, Michael de Beer and Ntando Masando were selected to play in the primary schools’ teams.

Mayuran Logenathan, Wasim Suliman and Ridhwaan Mhlongo were selected to play for the U17 rural week in the high school section.

The union also held their AGM in which they had the election of office bearers where Aboo Ismali was re-elected as the union’s president.

Mbuesini Maziwe and Desigan Pillay were elected as vice presidents. Naren Singh was elected as the treasurer, Rajiv Matherpersad as secretary and Iresh Hemraj as records clerk.
