KwaDukuza dart team loses stalwart player

Charlie Pillay had been a member of the team for the past 15 years.

The KwaDukuza dart team that was recently selected have vowed to do well at the KZN games at Queensburg Sports Ground in honour of KwaDukuza darts stalwart Charlie Pillay.

KwaDukuza Darts Association (KDDA) media liaison Darrel Shanmagum said Pillay passed away last week and had been a member of the team for the past 15 years.

“He was an excellent administrator and well-liked within the darts community.

“He had represented KwaDukuza and Dolphin Coast in KZN and national events, therefore we find it fitting to play the games in his honour,” said Shanmagum.

KDDA held their annual KZN and national championship team selections last Wednesday and Darrel Shanmagum, Vinesh Geanbally, Yogan Pillay, Vasa Rungasamy, Justin Naidoo, Leon Munisamy, Meersingh Sobram and Devan Govender were selected.

Chairman of KDDA Meersinghs Sobram said the team consisted of a good balance of youth and experienced players and the teams were backing themselves to bring back honours to KwaDukuza.

“KDDA kicked off their KZN Games on Saturday, March 2 at Queensburgh Sports Club and came up against the Empangeni, Tongaat and Phoenix teams. Unfortunately, no results were available at this stage.”

He also commended the players who took part but did not get selected and asked them to keep practicing to improve their chances.
